‘From Haircuts to Highlights’

This year, I had the pleasure of creating a mixed media piece for Andrew Bertram, a much-loved hairdresser who has been part of the Galashiels community for the past 47 years. Although Andrew has recently sold his shop, he continues to work within the LA Beauté building, still sharing his skill and passion for hairstyling.

The commission was designed to commemorate his remarkable career and captures him as a silhouette in the front window, gently cutting a client’s hair — a scene so familiar to many in the town.

The brief from his lovely wife, Fiona, was that the piece should be quirky, vibrant, and full of gold bling in the sky — and that’s exactly what was delivered!

The finished artwork now hangs proudly in Andrew’s vestibule, where family and friends can admire it — a heartfelt tribute to a lifetime spent lovingly cutting hair and brightening the lives of those in his community.
